Two young guys named John Rendall and Anthony "Ace" Bourke discovered a baby lion cub for sale in 1969 while they were perusing the Harrods department store in London. They chose to take the cub home and gave him the name Christian after being captivated by his kind disposition. Spending their days together in the city, where Christian became a well-known and adored figure in the community, the three soon developed an unshakeable friendship. As Christian grew, however, it became clear that a city apartment would not be a suitable home for a lion. With heavy hearts, John and Ace decided to take Christian to Africa, where he could live freely in his natural environment. They made arrangements with conservationist George Adamson, who agreed to reintroduce Christian to the wild in Kenya. Leaving Christian was one of the hardest things John and Ace ever did.
