Hold On—Greater Joy is Coming! A Reflection on Romans 8:18


"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." – Romans 8:18

Pain, hardship, and struggles can sometimes feel overwhelming. When we go through difficulties, it’s easy to wonder if things will ever get better. But Romans 8:18 reminds us of a beautiful promise: what we are facing now is nothing compared to the joy and glory that God has in store for us.

What This Verse Means

Paul, the writer of Romans, understood suffering—he faced persecution, imprisonment, and trials for his faith. Yet, he remained confident that temporary pain could never outweigh eternal joy. This verse reminds us that while we may face challenges, God is working on something far greater—both in this life and in eternity.

How to Apply Romans 8:18 in Your Life

  1. Keep an Eternal Perspective – Difficult seasons don’t last forever. No matter what you’re going through, remember that God has a bigger plan, and His joy will come.
  2. Trust God’s Process – Just like a seed must go through darkness before it grows, sometimes our greatest blessings come after our hardest struggles.
  3. Stay Faithful in the Waiting – Even when things don’t make sense, keep praying, keep trusting, and keep moving forward. God is preparing something greater than you can imagine.
  4. Encourage Others – If you’ve been through pain, use your testimony to remind others that God’s promises are true. He turns mourning into joy.

  Reflection on Isaiah 43:19 "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."  There are moments in life when we feel stuck—like we’ve reached a dead end, and there’s no way forward. Maybe you’ve been praying for a breakthrough, but nothing seems to change. Maybe you’re facing a difficult situation, and you can’t see a way out. But  Isaiah 43:19 reminds us that God is always working, even when we don’t see it. Think about the Israelites when they stood before the Red Sea. They thought their journey was over.
