What Does the Bible Say About Waiting on God?

For the season that feels like it will never end

If you're reading this, you're probably waiting on something. A door to open. A prayer to be answered. An answer that hasn't come yet, even though you've asked and asked and asked.

Waiting is one of the hardest things God ever asks us to do — not because it's complicated, but because it feels like nothing is happening. Like He's forgotten. Like the silence means no.

But the Bible has so much to say about waiting, and none of it says you're forgotten. Let's walk through what God actually says about this season you're in.

Waiting Is Not Wasted Time

Isaiah 40:31 says, "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Notice the order here — strength comes first, and it comes from the waiting itself, not from what you're waiting for. God isn't wasting this time. He's building something in you that the answer alone never could.

His Timing Is Not Late

2 Peter 3:8 reminds us that with the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. God is not bound by your calendar or your countdown. What feels late to you is not late to Him.

This doesn't erase how hard the waiting feels. But it does mean you can stop measuring God's faithfulness by your timeline.

Waiting Is an Act of Trust

Psalm 27:14 says, "Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!"

The psalmist says it twice — wait, wait — because he knows how tempting it is to give up or take matters into your own hands. Waiting on God isn't passive. It's one of the bravest things you can do, because it says: I trust You more than I trust my own timing.

You Are Not Alone in This Season

Lamentations 3:25 promises that the Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. This waiting season is not God stepping back — it's an invitation to seek Him closer than you ever have.

He is not distant while you wait. He is near, working, forming, preparing — even when you cannot see it yet.

God says, "I know this waiting feels heavy. But I'm not late, and I haven't forgotten you. Trust Me with what you can't see yet."

A Prayer for Your Waiting Season

Lord, this waiting is hard. Some days I feel strong, and other days I want to give up on believing You'll come through. Help me trust Your timing even when I can't see what You're doing. Renew my strength like You promised. Remind me that this season isn't wasted — it's preparing me. I choose to wait on You, Lord, with courage and hope. In Jesus' name, amen.

Wherever you are in your waiting season, you are not forgotten. Hold on a little longer.
