Day 59: A Love Letter from God About Forgiving What Feels Unforgivable

Day 59: A Love Letter from God About Forgiveness

COLOSSIANS 3:13

My child,

I know you're still holding onto what they did. Replaying it, rehearsing what you should have said, carrying the weight of it into rooms it doesn't belong in. You've been asking Me how you're supposed to forgive someone who never even apologized, never even seemed to understand what they broke.

I want to be clear about something first: forgiveness is not the same as saying it was okay. It's not pretending the hurt wasn't real, and it's not required to happen on anyone else's timeline but yours and Mine, together. Forgiveness was never Me asking you to minimize your pain — it was Me offering you a way to be free from carrying theirs.

Here's what unforgiveness does that you may not fully see yet: it keeps you tethered to the very person who hurt you. Every time you replay it, they get to occupy space in you they haven't earned. Every sleepless night spent rehearsing the argument, every version of the conversation you wish you'd had — that's still them, taking up residence in your peace, long after the moment itself has passed. I don't want that for you. I want you free — not for their sake, but for yours.

I know how to forgive what looks unforgivable. I did it for you. Every wrong you've ever done, every time you turned away from Me, every quiet betrayal in your own heart — I've already forgiven, not because it didn't matter, but because I chose love over the debt you owed Me. I'm not asking you to do something I haven't already done Myself, and I'm not asking you to do it in your own strength either. I'll help you.

This doesn't mean reconciliation. It doesn't mean letting them back into places that aren't safe for you, or pretending trust wasn't broken. Some relationships need distance to be healthy, and that's wisdom, not unforgiveness. Forgiveness is between you and Me — a decision to release what they owe you into My hands, so you can finally set the weight down, regardless of what they choose to do with their side of it.

I also want you to know this isn't usually a one-time decision. You may forgive them today and feel the anger rise again tomorrow. That doesn't mean you failed. It means you're human, and healing rarely moves in a straight line. Every time it resurfaces, you get to choose again — to release it again, to bring it back to Me again — until one day you notice it doesn't have the same grip on you anymore.

Start where you are. Even if it's just willingness today, not full forgiveness yet. I'll walk you the rest of the way. You don't have to arrive there alone, and you don't have to arrive there today.

I love you,
God

A Prayer for Forgiveness

Father, I've been carrying what they did like a weight I can't set down. Help me release it into Your hands, not because it didn't hurt, but because I don't want to carry it anymore. Teach me what forgiveness looks like without requiring me to pretend the wound wasn't real. Give me strength for the days it resurfaces, and set me free. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If this letter met you right where you are, tell me below: what's one thing you're ready to start releasing today?
