Day 66: A Love Letter from God About What You Lost

Day 66: A Love Letter from God About Your Grief

PSALM 34:18

My child,

I see the loss you're still carrying. The person, the season, the version of life you thought you'd have — gone, and no amount of trying to move on has made the ache disappear the way people seem to expect it to by now.

I never asked you to rush your grief. The world wants you back to normal quickly, wants your sadness to have a tidy timeline, but I don't measure your healing by how fast you recover. Grief is love with nowhere to go, and I'm not asking you to stop loving what you lost just to make everyone else more comfortable.

I know some days you feel like you're moving forward, and then a memory catches you off guard and it feels like the loss just happened all over again. That's not you failing to heal. That's what grief actually looks like — not a straight line, but waves, some gentler than others, some that knock you over even years later. An anniversary, a certain song, a smell that carries you right back — none of that means you're stuck. It means you loved deeply, and deep love doesn't disappear just because the person or the season did.

I know you've had to keep functioning while carrying this — showing up to work, smiling in conversations, going through the motions of ordinary days while something in you still aches. That takes a kind of strength most people never see. I see it. I see the effort it takes just to keep going some days, and I am not asking you to hide that effort from Me the way you might from everyone else.

I am close to the brokenhearted. Not distant while you grieve, not waiting for you to finish crying before I'll comfort you — close, right now, in the middle of the ache. I don't ask you to grieve alone. Bring Me the memories. Bring Me the anger, if that's what's there. Bring Me the guilt over things left unsaid, the conversations you wish you'd had, the moments you wish you could have back. I can hold every piece of it, even the parts you haven't said out loud to anyone.

There is no expiration date on missing someone. I don't need you to be "over it" for Me to still walk closely with you. Grieve as long as you need to. I'll be here for every wave of it — the ones you expect and the ones that catch you completely off guard.

What you lost mattered. It's allowed to still hurt. And I am with you in every wave of it, for as long as it takes.

I love you,
God

A Prayer for Grief

Father, this loss still hurts more than I know how to explain. Thank You for not rushing my healing or asking me to pretend I'm okay. Meet me in the waves of grief, even the ones that catch me off guard. Hold what I can't carry alone, and remind me that You are close to the brokenhearted. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If this letter met you right where you are, tell me below: what's one memory you're carrying today?
