Day 67: A Love Letter from God About Noticing the Small Mercies
Day 67: A Love Letter from God About Your Gratitude
My child,
I know it's hard to feel thankful when so much still feels unfinished. The prayer that hasn't been answered, the season that's dragging longer than you hoped, the ache that hasn't fully healed — gratitude can feel like something you have to earn the right to feel, something reserved for when life finally looks the way you want it to.
But I'm not asking you to be thankful because everything is perfect. I'm asking you to notice what's still good, even in the middle of what's still hard. Both can be true at once. You can grieve what's missing and still notice the small mercies I've placed right in front of you — the friend who checked in, the meal on your table, the breath in your lungs this morning.
Gratitude isn't pretending your struggles don't exist. It's choosing to see Me in the details, even the small ones, especially the small ones. It shifts your focus from what you don't have to what I've already given — and that shift changes something in you, even before your circumstances change. It's not a trick to make hard things feel good. It's a practice that slowly retrains your heart to notice Me in places you'd otherwise walk right past.
I know some days it feels like there's nothing to be thankful for. On those days, start small. Thank Me for one thing. Just one. Not because I need to hear it, but because gratitude has a way of loosening the grip that discouragement has on your heart. It doesn't erase the hard things — it just makes room for something alongside them.
Gratitude also has a way of connecting you back to Me in the ordinary moments, not just the answered prayers and the mountaintop seasons. It reminds you that I am present in the Tuesday afternoons, the quiet mornings, the meals shared with people you love — not just in the dramatic breakthroughs you've been waiting for. Most of your life is made of ordinary days, and I don't want you to miss Me in them while you're waiting for the extraordinary ones.
You have more than you realize. And I am worth thanking, even in the waiting, even in the hard, even now.
God
A Prayer for Gratitude
Father, forgive me for focusing so much on what's missing that I forget what You've already given. Open my eyes to the small mercies around me today. Teach me to be thankful even in the middle of what's still hard. Shift my heart toward gratitude, one small thing at a time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
