Day 88: A Love Letter from God About Envy

PSALM 73:2-3, 25-26

My child,

You saw what someone else has today, and something twisted inside you. Not simple admiration — envy, the kind that makes you feel a little bitter toward someone you actually care about, the kind that leaves you resentful instead of happy for them. You feel guilty about it, but you can't quite shake the ache of wanting what they have.

I want you to know I'm not shocked by this feeling, and it doesn't make you a bad person. Even the psalmist wrote honestly about this exact struggle — my feet had almost slipped, I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Envy is an old, human ache, and I'd rather you name it honestly to Me than pretend it isn't there, letting it quietly rot into resentment.

But I do want to remind you of something: their blessing is not your lack. What I've given someone else was never subtracted from what I have for you. I am not distributing a limited supply of good things, forced to give less to you because I gave more to them. My provision for your life is not in competition with anyone else's.

PSALM 73:25-26

God says, "Whom have you in heaven but Me? And earth has nothing you desire besides Me. My flesh and heart may fail, but I am the strength of your heart, your portion forever."

I am your portion. Not their house, their relationship, their career, their body, their season of ease. You don't have to keep glancing sideways at what I gave someone else to know that what I have for you is still good. Bring Me your envy honestly, and let Me remind you that your portion is Me, and I am enough.

A Prayer for Envy

Father, I've been comparing what I have to what someone else has, and it's left me bitter instead of grateful. Forgive me for the envy I've been carrying. Remind me that their blessing isn't my lack, and that You are my portion. Help me be genuinely happy for others again. In Jesus' name, Amen.

It reminds us that even when we reach the end of our own strength, we are never beyond the reach of God’s grace.
