Day 109: A Love Letter from God About Grace You Don’t Have to Earn
Day 109: A Love Letter from God About Feeling Unworthy of Good Things
My child,
When something good comes your way, a quiet voice rises up almost immediately: you don't deserve this. A kind word, an answered prayer, an unexpected blessing, a moment of ease — instead of simply receiving it, you brace for the other shoe to drop, or you wonder what you did to earn it, or you feel strangely guilty for having it at all.
I want you to hear this: good things were never meant to be a reward you had to qualify for. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. Everything I've ever given you started with grace, not merit. That wasn't a one-time rule that applied only to salvation. It's how I relate to you in everything.
If you could earn a gift, it wouldn't be a gift anymore. The whole point of grace is that it comes without a price tag you have to pay back. When I give you good things, I'm not keeping a ledger, waiting for you to prove you were worth it. I give because I love you, because that's simply who I am toward you, not because you've reached some standard of deserving.
God says, "It is by grace you have been saved — it is not from yourselves, it is My gift. You don't have to deserve it. You only have to receive it."
So let yourself receive. Let the good thing be good without bracing for what's coming next, without explaining why you don't deserve it, without shrinking from it out of guilt. You are allowed to enjoy what I've given you. You are allowed to rest in blessing, not just survive hardship. I delight in giving good gifts to My children, and that includes you.
God
A Prayer for Receiving Good Things
Father, I struggle to believe I deserve good things, and I brace for loss even in moments of blessing. Help me receive Your gifts with open hands instead of guilt. Remind me that grace was never something I had to earn. Teach me to rest in Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
