Day 110: A Love Letter from God About Praising Him in the Storm
Day 110: A Love Letter from God About Praising Him in the Storm
My child,
You're in the middle of something hard, and the last thing you feel like doing is worshiping. Someone might tell you to just praise your way through it, as if gratitude could erase the weight you're carrying, and a part of you resents that. You're not pretending this isn't painful. You don't have the energy to put on a song you don't feel and smile through it.
I want you to know I'm not asking you to fake anything. Praise in the storm was never about pretending the storm isn't real. It's about declaring, even in the middle of it, that I am still who I say I am, regardless of what your circumstances look like. Think of Paul and Silas, beaten and thrown into a prison cell, their feet fastened in stocks. About midnight they were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.
Notice what happened next. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose. Their praise didn't ignore their pain. It happened right in the middle of it, in the darkest hour, in the place that looked the most hopeless, and something shifted that no one expected. Chains broke. Doors opened. Not because of their circumstances, but because of what praise declared about Me.
God says, "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns, and suddenly the chains came loose. Praise in the dark is where chains begin to break."
You don't have to sing loudly. You don't have to feel it. Even a whispered "You are still good" in the middle of your hardest night is enough. I hear every honest word of praise offered from a hurting heart, and I am present in it. Your praise in this season is not small. It is a quiet act of trust, and I promise you, I am moving in the middle of it.
God
A Prayer for Praising in the Storm
Father, I don't feel like worshiping right now, but I choose to say that You are still good. I'm not pretending my situation isn't hard. Meet me in this honest, midnight place. Help me trust that praise in the dark is not wasted, and break whatever chains need to be broken in Your way and Your time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
